Lake Hartwell Retreat

Monday we roughed in the plumbing then Tuesday in the early morning fog we poured the basement slabs. In preparation of pouring the basement floors we took several steps.
We :
  •  installed grade beams where needed
  •  spread 4 inches of gravel evenly across the basement floor
  •  installed a vapor barrier to prevent moisture from coming through the slab
  •  installed wire mesh to add strength to the concrete
  • installed a radon gas vent

Here you get a birds eye view of the completed foundation.  The next step will be to back fill around the foundation, once this is complete we can start framing!

Here is a picture of the water proofing system we use. This is a 3 part system. The first part is the the elastic membrane we spray on the foundation. This  flexible membrane is waterproof and seals the concrete to prevent water intrusion. The second part is the insulation board. This insulation board has two main functions. It protects the membrane and it wicks water away from the wall and down to the drain pipe. The third part to the system is the rectangular"J -Drain" pipe at the bottom of the wall. This drain will direct any water that accumulates at the base of the foundation out and away from the house.
